This is a listing of the recommended essential textbooks that should be used when a student is following the Embark To Mysticism e-study system. These books will also be mentioned in the appropriate study plans as you progress in your studies or review. I am trying to cut the number of books to a minimum, due to the abundance of material on the internet. If your budget is limited, don't forget to also use the library facilities in your area. Try to purchase these books from your favorite book store. If the book is out of print, try finding a used copy from one of the "dot.com" companies on the internet. You can email several of them at the same time asking if they have a copy for sale. For some of the books I have given you a direct link to the publisher. This is to facilitate your purchase; of course you can also buy most of them from book stores. Please bear in mind that I do not profit in any way from your purchase of these textbooks.

"An Encyclopedic Outline Of Masonic, Hermetic, Qabbalistic and Rosicrucian Symbolical Philosophy" By Manly P. Hall. Publisher: The Philosophical Research Society, Inc. Los Angeles, CA 90027

An excellent reference and textbook on Mysticism with many large colored pictures. This book is a good choice for the subjects enumerated in the title. It is an expensive book, but well worth it, as a general textbook and referance. There are four editions available. I have chosen this one, because of its lower price and having large 9"x13" pages and 54 symbolic color plates and 200 black and white illustrations in hardback form. (ISBN: 0-89314-548-3). If you plan to buy a new copy, you might as well order it directly from the publisher. To see the various editions, etc, click here. (We do not profit in anyway from your orders).

Because this book is encyclopedic in nature, it tends to have small size text under the colored pictures, so it might be a good idea to have a reading magnifying glass, especially if your vision is not 20/20. Before you start to use the book, take some time to get acquainted with it, so you will be prepared to also use it as a reference when necessary to clarify internet text. Read the preface pages and familiarize yourself with the index system. Do not proceed with Study Plan #2 until you have these textbooks and are familar with textbook #1.

"Wisdom of the Mystic Masters" By Joseph J. Weed. Publisher: Parker Publishing Company, Inc. West Nyack, New York.

This is a text on Rosicrucianism that is intended for the general public, but it can be comprehensive when used in combination with the text #1 above. This is an excellent text to follow many of the basic teachings in the monographs. I don't know of another book taken directly from the monographs. This is a must for Rosicrucian studies where the Monographs are unavailable. It also contains many experiments of practical value in your studies and development.

"Insight Meditation" By Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein. Publisher: Sounds True.

This is a complete Meditation Kit - a complete beginners course using the Buddhist tradition which is compatible with Western Mysticism. The kit contains a work book, 2 CD's for audible meditations, and flash cards. You may order this kit directly from Sounds True, click here.

(Optional - A good reference, if available.)

"Rosicrucian Manual" By H. Spencer Lewis. Published By: Supreme Grand Lodge of AMORC, San Jose, CA, USA.

This book is no longer in print, but is still available in some bookshops as used volumes. It is a good referance volume for students of Mysticism. It will be a great asset to your library if you can locate one. Don't forget to check with the dot.com book shops.
