A few students want to pursue their studies in Mysticism and also belong to a religious group. This can be done and there is no reason why you cannot. In fact the last three Imperators of the Rosicrucian Order recommended this for students that feel comfortable with it. Usually the student can render a useful service to the Church with his knowledge of Mysticism. Most students of Mysticism become so involved in the study that after a few years, they devote their full time to the study of Mysticism and becomming a Mystic.
My personal experience is along this line of thought. I studied Mysticism for several years from AMORC when I got the idea I wanted to join a liberal religion and drop my studies. I did just that and joined Religious Science or Science of Mind. I attended services every Sunday, as a member of that particular religion, studied my lessons and this satisfied me for about three years. At the end of that time I felt like I should go back to AMORC and resume my studies. I probably had to have this experience before I could realize that my membership and studies in Mysticism was exactly what I wanted. This diversion helped me to realize that I was really interested in pursuing my studies in Mysticism. Perhaps I needed that diversion to have certain spiritual experiences before I was ready to resume my studies in Mysticism.
Your Spiritual Path is the most important aspect of your life. Do not do anything until you meditate and contemplate on it for awhile. If you cannot make up your mind, consult some reliable person that you know that is knowledgeable on the subject. Listen to him/her; but in the end you have to make up your own mind with meditation/contemplation, and listen to the Still Small Voice within.
